Intelligence failure

Now widely accepted as the reason for the invasion of Iraq: it was supposedly a ‘failure’ of the ‘intelligence community’. In fact, the US and UK intelligence services were instructed by politicians to come up with any evidence possible, no matter how tenuous, for the existence of WMDs: they obediently supplied it while warning it was highly unreliable. If there was an intelligence failure, it was someone else’s.
