Reassure the markets

Politicians say that they have to do whatever will ‘reassure the markets’, as though financial markets are nervous little flowers who constantly need their ‘confidence’ boosting by any means necessary. Thus politicians divert attention from their own ideological preference for ‘austerity’, while openly saying that it is global bondholders and speculators, rather than elected leaders, who are our real masters.
