Waterboarding

Method of torture practised by the US administration in the ‘war on terror’. The term, dating from 2004, is designed to make light of the practice as though it were a fun beach sport. In fact, ‘waterboarding’ consists of drowning the victim but stopping before they die.

Article containing the surprising claim: “Of the 12 high-value targets housed by the CIA, only one did not require waterboarding before he talked.” Presumably the others did not actually ask to be tortured
